Camp Cedar Cliff at the Cove is one of many summer camps in Western North Carolina.

Life is good when summer involves time away at camp.

It's an escape from the everyday routine. It gives children of all ages — from kindergartners to rising college freshmen — an opportunity to get out of their comfort zone. They can explore nature, try new activities, make new friends (or reconnect with old ones), and learn more about themselves.

There are dozens of camps in WNC, and each is unique. Some have been around for close to 100 years, hosting generations of the same family over the years. Some have a specific focus, from spirituality to sports. Others are the quintessential summer camp with every tradition you'd hope for.

But it's only February, you say. Isn't that too early to think about camp? Not at all. Some camps start registering as early as October for the following summer. Book early to get the week you want.

With the links below, you'll find residential camp opportunities for boys, girls and both. Plus, there's a section for special needs camps of all kinds.

Well before summer hits, you may need a place for your child to spend his or her days during spring break. Find opportunities for those camps below as well.
