Letter: Trump’s dodging on tax returns extremely troubling

How can the U.S. allow someone to receive top secret U.S. security briefings when that individual will not disclose his personal tax return and thereby reveal U.S. legal and financial obligations to the people seeking to make an election choice?

There are a plethora of elements that concern me with Donald Trump, but as a tax CPA this causes me great concern. I feel it has warranted little press because of the never-ending supply of other outrageous antics.

After 30 years in the tax industry I know a very clear road map can be drawn regarding a person’s life by reading an individual’s tax filings. Financial priorities, lifestyle choices, integrity to legal and national obligations, and potential economic conflicts become clear.

If a person aspires to lead their government which makes financial choices regarding tax receipts and expenditures of public money, shouldn’t voters have a right to see that individual’s previous conduct regarding compliance with laws of that government?

Our current tax system can certainly use adjusting. I would argue, however, the leader of our country should not be an individual who is fearful of making public his contribution to the very financial base that would pay his salary.
