ASHEVILLE - Local dogs are the only creatures who could find this wreck enjoyable.

A truck carrying 45,000 pounds of dog food overturned Tuesday morning before 8 a.m. on I-26, just north of I-240, spilling its load and snarling traffic for hours.

"The driver was traveling north on I-26 near Hill Street when he tried to negotiate a curve and swerved to avoid a car and turned over," said Asheville Police Department spokeswoman Christina Hallingse.

One westbound travel lane was closed until about 11 a.m. while crews cleaned the food up and got the truck out of the way, Hallingse said.

No one was injured in the single-vehicle wreck, she said.

"We don't think we'll be charging anyone," Hallingse said. "The driver over-corrected (to avoid the other car), and that caused him to overturn."

She added, though, that the North Carolina Highway Patrol will investigate to see if any federal motor carrier laws were violated.
