Our nation was built on an equal right to vote

Edith M. Conrad, Asheville

It is simple: I believe in the right of each citizen to vote. The vote belongs to each person, not determined by the color of their skin.

It is their property just as much as the clothes on their back. They may agree with my position, or not. No matter how poor or rich, each person has one vote, no more, no less. If you try to deprive them of their vote by making it difficult to vote, you are a thief.

This country was built on each person having an equal right to vote, to have their say. If you think you have more rights in this country than someone else for whatever reason, there is only one word to describe you: traitor.

Are you proud to hear North Carolina mentioned high on the list of states seeking to suppress their voters? I am personally ashamed.
